KMFDM - Hau Ruck

Some people are saying KMFDM is stuck in a rut. Not by a long shot. “Hau Ruck” may emulate the last fifteen years, but they’ve just found a formula that works. Though some of the key members may be missing (En Esch and Tim Skold are now in Slick Idiot), the album shows no break in the creativity or impressiveness of the band that brought us the club hits “A Drug Against War” and “Megalomaniac.” This release definately isn’t lacking the arrogant attitude we’ve come to love in the last twenty-some-odd years.
With the signature heavy guitar sound, “Hau Ruck” incorporates catchy dance riffs, hard-driving beats, and a vaguely Industrial – Pop luster. “Free Your Hate” opens the album with a hard kick catapulting the listener into the chaoticly harsh, yet humorous, and provocative world of KMFDM. The album also features an impressive cover of Jacques Dutronc’s “Mini Mini Mini.” KMFDM has managed to create their own interpretation of the song, without losing any of the original reverence.
The only setback to the album may just be that very emulation of the last fifteen years. Some fans may find the relative lack of musical evolution irritating, while the rest seem to find that sticking with a proven formula is better than trying experimental sounds at the risk alienating many longtime fans.
