God Module - Viscera

After three albums, God Module finally releases their best effort yet. The band still has a long way to go, but with “Viscera,” they’ve proven they have the potential to become a club favourite.
Lyrically, this album shows a shift toward a more intensely romantic style. Musically, God Module has created a versatile layout giving nods to many different genres of electronic music. “Viscera” features an overlay of trance-inspired sequences, with hints of 80’s New Wave synths, and a hard EBM backdrop. The Industrial aspects of the genre inundate this release as one would expect.
The vocal effects are nicely done, though the Cradle of Filth style scream-singing is profoundly ostentatious, and becomes rather obnoxious halfway through the cd. Also, “Viscera” could have done without the bastardized cover of The Cure’s “A Night Like This”. One can appreciate God Module’s attempt to interpret the song and make it their own, but may take listeners a few plays to even recognize what it is.
All in all, the album shows that the band is on the right track, and with a little more evolution, God Module could reach a new level of popularity. Expect big things from this band in the coming years, and the next release to produce impressive dancefloor hits.
For fans of the band, the label has also released a 2 disk version of the album featuring remixes and edits.
